Design Principles--Movement, Golden Mean

This was one of the first assignments I did for the DDN-101 class with Grand Canyon University, where we had to demonstrate our understanding of various design concepts. This is one image of many, but is perhaps my favorite. The two concepts I chose to combine was the Golden Mean and movement, and for this illustration, I chose to illustrate a swirl of bubbles. When creating this design, I imagined an underwater scene of some sort of aquatic life swimming away, their tail creating the bubbles as they turn and flip around. Think something in the style of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" cartoon, where all the bubbles in the movie were drawn in post-production. Of course, the circles aren't perfect, being as at this point in time, I didn't quite have all the material needed for the course--that didn't come until the following week, so all circular designs were done by freehand. I personally enjoyed the variation of the sizes in the bubbles. This was done on a 9 x 12 mixed media sketchbook with micron pens--if I remember correctly, the particular size the pen was on was a .05, but I didn't document this size, so I could be wrong.
